Engineered hardwood done right
Engineered hardwood is real wood on top of a dimensionally stable plywood core. It looks identical to solid hardwood underfoot but won't cup, gap, or buckle when humidity shifts - and in a coastal city with the kind of ambient moisture and hurricane-season swings St. Augustine gets, that stability is the whole reason most of our customers choose it. That makes engineered the right pick for basements and slab-on-grade rooms, kitchens, and rooms with radiant heating, from historic Lincolnville cottages to brand-new builds in Nocatee.
Amazing Floors Florida stocks engineered hardwood from Lauzon, Mirage, Mercier, Kahrs, Coswick, Shaw, and Armstrong - the same brands we carry for higher-end projects.

Why homeowners choose engineered
Engineered hardwood gives you most of the benefits of solid wood - see our real solid hardwood page for that comparison - with none of the climate sensitivity that solid wood faces in a humid subtropical climate.
- Stable on concrete slabs and over radiant heat
- Handles St. Augustine's year-round humidity without cupping or gapping
- Available in wider planks (up to 9") that solid wood can't deliver
- Pre-finished from the factory with aluminum-oxide topcoats
- Floating, glue-down, or nail-down installation - whatever your subfloor needs
- Refinishable once or twice depending on wear-layer thickness

Most engineered hardwood is made from European or American oak, but you can also get maple, walnut, hickory, and exotic species. Plank widths run from a classic 3" up to designer 9"-wide boards. Finishes range from clear matte to wire-brushed, hand-scraped, fumed, and reactive-stained European looks.

Professional installation
Our installers assess your subfloor first - moisture testing on concrete slabs (essential here, not optional), joist inspection on plywood, flatness gauges everywhere. We then recommend floating, glue-down, or nail-down based on what will perform best for your home. Every quote includes baseboard removal/reinstall, transitions to adjacent rooms, and full disposal of your existing floor. Pairing engineered hardwood with matching hardwood stairs? We'll quote both at once so the whole project matches, and financing is available if you'd rather spread the cost.

Engineered Hardwood - frequently asked questions
Yes - if the wear layer is 3mm or thicker, it can be sanded and refinished once or twice. Thinner wear layers (1-2mm) should be screened and recoated instead - ask us about hardwood refinishing either way.
Water-resistant, not waterproof. It tolerates humidity and the occasional spill far better than solid wood, but standing water from a dishwasher leak or storm intrusion should still be cleaned up promptly.
Yes - this is one of engineered hardwood's biggest advantages. We follow manufacturer guidelines on subfloor temperature and acclimation to prevent gapping.
Floating is faster and easier to repair. Glue-down feels more solid underfoot and is quieter. Over concrete slabs, which most St. Augustine, FL homes are built on, we typically recommend glue-down. Get a free estimate and we'll tell you which fits your subfloor.
